This session included a panelist from MPO to demonstrate their robust methodology to conduct an equity analysis using their travel demand model, followed by panelists from academia to introduce a few topics in equity, including meanings, laws, commonly used practices plus innovations.

Panelists

  • Mrs. Ziying Ouyang is the manager of regional models for application and analysis at the San Diego Association of Governments. She leads a modeling team to apply activity-based models to support agency priority projects such as the regional plan and sustainable communities strategies and corridor studies.
  • Dr. Alex Karner is an associate professor in community and regional planning at the University of Texas at Austin. His work critically engages with transportation planning practice to achieve progress towards equity and justice.
  • Dr. Willem Klumpenhouwer is an independent research and data consultant. He works to help agencies and advocates better understand their transit systems through data analytics and thoughtful communication.
